Sunday Funday

Breakfast (9:00 a.m.): Saori and I shared the leftover chiffon cake from last night for breakfast / pre-workout carb load. I love that I can eat a slice of cake guilt free in the morning.

Workout (11:00 a.m.): We were off to Rose Bowl for a fun Kangoo session. Shannon and Raf joined us at Rose Bowl (although Raf rollerbladed and didn’t Kangoo with us). We ran around the Rose Bowl in Kangoo boots, went up a hill, did some squats, etc. for a total of one hour. We took a bunch of pictures and I missed the jump in every single shot …redface

Lunch (1:30 p.m.): Saori and I had lunch at Sharkys after the workout. I had the Fajita Bowl with steak, with a refreshing cup of unsweetened ice tea (I put one Splenda because my body was craving something sweet). It’s so delicious!

I looked up the nutritional information and it looks like this bowl contains about 1,000 calories. There was no actual calorie count for the steak fajita, but there was one for chicken and it was 850. But it’s really worth the calories.

Dinner (5:00 p.m.): I had the Stamina Bowl in the late afternoon. I ate this pretty early so I’m still deciding if I should eat something for dinner but I’m leaning against it. I had a handful of Pucca and I’m thinking about calling it a night, in terms of my daily food intake. Maybe I’ll have a cup of coffee (just replenished my Dunkin Donut coffee beans!) or tea. We’ll see.

Super Bowl?  What’s that?

Update:  Dinner (9:30 p.m.): Okay, I got weak … and ate about 10 gyozas that my mother packed for me last night. I know it was way too late for me to eat anything but I did … and I had some chocolates too. Eeek. Gotta work out a little longer tomorrow.

Happy February!

Breakfast (10:00 a.m. Not pictured): Had two pieces of Raisin Pecan Crisps that I got yesterday from Corner Bakery. I’m kind of addicted to this dried bread, sprinkled in sugar.

Lunch (11:30 a.m.): Had lunch at Corner Bakery with Roxanne and Nicole (yep, two days in a row). I had Trio (three side dishes), with Green Salad, Asian Edamame Salad, Southwestern Avocado Wedge, and Caprese Tomato Salad … mmm.

Pre-Workout Meal (4:30 p.m. Not pictured): I was so hungry when I got home from work that I had a bowl of rice, shredded cabbage, and five slices of shabu shabu pork, with goma sauce. I felt like I ate a little too much but this got me through a tough Kangoo workout with Saori.  Oh, and I ate a handful of Pucca.

Workout: One of the action items for 2012 (aka New Year’s Resolutions) is to work out every day for an entire month, for at least 30 minutes. It doesn’t matter what I do, as long as I’m moving, sweating, and getting my heart rate up!

Shannon (who decided to join me) and I selected this month to do this because February is the shortest month of the year, with only 29 days! (Yes, this is how we roll.lol)

Day 1 was a success. Roxanne and I walked up 12 flights of stairs at the office today after lunch. We actually did this yesterday as well. I really struggled with it yesterday (and stopped a few times, from floors six to about nine), but I was able to climb up steadily, without any stops today! It felt great but the downside was that I sweat profusely for at least 10 minutes when I got back to my desk. Thank goodness I didn’t have any meetings in the afternoon.

Saori came over and trained me tonight. We “hopped” to the nearby park and did an hour of intense but fun workout using Kangoo Jumps. I can’t believe how much I’m enjoying this workout! I’m seriously in love with it.

Dinner (8:30 p.m.): After the workout, I prepared this nameless dish.  I pretty much tossed everything I had in the refrigerator, not really caring what it would taste like, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was pretty darn good. It’s an udon dish, with shredded cabbage, shabu shabu pork slices, natto, tororo, squid kimchi, green onion, with goma sauce and ponzu.

Day 2, here we come!

Easing In …

I have this rule that I can buy magazines only when I’m traveling. When I’m on the road, I have a permission to pick up any publications, even trashy tabloids, although I usually end up selecting my usual The Oprah Magazine and Real Simple (and maybe The New Yorker when I’m in the mood for some intellectual read).

On my last trip, I picked up the February issue of the O Magazine and found an exercise called, “You … in Six Words,” where you are challenged to come up with a haiku-like memoir that describes your life in six simple words. Oprah’s was, “Seeking the fullest expression of self.” Some of my favorites were, “I dance daily, watched or not,” “Recipe for failure, changed my ingredients,” and “The good child, until I wasn’t.” I gave this some thought during my five-plus hour flight and came out with this:

Finally growing into my true self.

What’s yours?

Breakfast (9:00 a.m.): Had a quick rice bowl with leftover Korean BBQ beef and seaweed salad for breakfast before the workout. I was halfway through the bowl when I realized that I forgot to take a picture.

Workout: Saori came over to my neck of the wood and trained me, Tiffany, and Shannon on Kangoo at Rose Bowl. She has wanted me to try this rollerblade-meets-trampoline exercise for several years but I resisted, until today.

It was a little difficult to get the hang of it at first, but it became super fun once I got over the fear. We ended up having an absolute blast! I think I’m officially a Kangoo addict. I can’t wait to do it again on Wednesday!surprised

Lunch (1:30 p.m.): After the Kangoo workout, we went to Le Pain Quotidien (our usual) for well-earned lunch. Instead of the usual bread basket, we split two chocolate croissants among the four of us.

I enjoyed a plate of smoked salmon tartines with a cup of Café au (soy) lait. I still feel strange drinking a hot drink with a cup with no handle …

I was still hungry so I had two pieces of bread with its homemade Nutella-esque hazelnut spread. I was in heaven.

Snack (5:00 p.m.): After I came home, took shower, and threw clothes in a washing machine for the second time, I had a small bowl of rice with squid kimchi and seaweed salad.

I also had a box of this Korean chocolate snack that I picked up yesterday

Dinner (7:30 p.m.): I realized that I ate just a little too much again today (despite the workout) so I decided to go light and ate shabu nabe with napa cabbage, mushrooms, onion, tofu, and five pieces of sliced pork for dinner. No rice because I already ate it for snack a few hours earlier.

It was a wonderful weekend.  I’m looking forward to a great week!
