Another delicious day …
Breakfast (9:30 a.m.): Onigiri (plain rice ball wrapped in seaweed, no filling) with tororo kombu soup. Not Totoro but tororo, dried seaweed. Still not easy for me to eat breakfast but I’m trying! Ate the onigiri during my morning conference call.
Lunch (12:00 p.m.): Lunch date with my work buddies Roxanne and Mary Lee at Maggiano’s in Woodland Hills. This is our ritual lunch and we always have a blast when we get together.
We shared our usual dishes: fried zucchinis, stuffed mushrooms, and flabread. We like to focus on the fact that zucchinis and mushrooms are vegetables, and not the fact that they’re deep fried, and drenched in butter. Also had a diet coke with Grenadine with the meal (my vice).
Snack (4:00 p.m.): Got really hungry after I got home, so had a bowl of rice with assorted kimchi (same as yesterday), another tororo kombu soup, and a chocolate snack from a Korean market in the afternoon. The chocolate bar was super tiny but delicious. Not sure why I got hungry all of the sudden, especially after a pretty filling lunch.
I ended up eating one more chocolate bar, and 10 pieces of Pucca, chocolate-filled pretzel. No real self control today.
Dinner (8:45 p.m.): Realizing that I didn’t have enough vegetables for the day, I decided to have mizutaki (hot pot cooked in water) for dinner, with napa cabbage, daikon radish, shiitake mushroom, enoki mushroom, and harusame (Japanese rice noodle), dipped in out-of-this-world good gomadare (sesame sauce, pictured) and ponzu (Japanese citrus and soy sauce mix).
Also munched on leftover steamed Brussels spouts and string beans, dipped in homemade garlic mayonnaise.
